Do You Have All of the Necessary Swimming Pool Supplies?

When it comes to owning a swimming pool, there is a lot more to it than just choosing a pool, having it installed, and filling it with water. Many people don’t realize just how much work, and money it can take to maintain their pool when they do have one installed. Since pools can be rather expensive, especially in ground pools, you should make sure that you do all of the required maintenance to protect your investment. You will need various pool chemicals that are used to treat the water, test kits that are used to test the quality and safety of the water, paint approved for pool use, pool cleaners, filters, pumps, lighting, a cover, and a sturdy fence, not to mention any added accessories you may like to have, such as slides and diving boards. When determining the cost of installing your own pool, you should keep this in mind, so that you can budget accordingly.

Odds are, you will want to first locate the supplies that you will need for keeping your pool clean, as no one wants to swim in a dirty pool. There are many supplies on the market today that have made this task easier and faster for pool owners, which is a good thing. You can find cleaners that will clean the sides and the bottom of the pool, on their own, with little or no effort on your part. These cleaners are usually one of three styles, suction, robotic, and pressure. The one that you choose may depend on your budget, and the type of pool you have.

To get rid of those unsightly stains, or worse algae, you will need a good pool brush. These are typically made from nylon, plastic, or stainless steel. If you have a pool cover and use it whenever the pool is not in use, you won’t have to spend a lot of time scooping out leaves and bugs with a skimmer, which means that you will have more time to actually spend in the water. If you choose to, you can invest in a pool vacuum that can also aid in keeping debris out of the pool as well. For stains that are caused by chemicals in the water, you will need a stain eraser, which can get rid of stains caused by calcium and rust, among others.

To make certain that the pool water is safe for those who will be swimming in it, you will need to purchase and use chemicals that can sanitize the water, such as Bromine and Chlorine. Depending on where you are shopping, you may be able to get all of these supplies in one big kit, which can save you money. This kit usually contains a measuring cup, powered sanitizers, stabilizer, conditioner, a water bottle for testing, and test strips for checking the chlorine levels. You may also want to use some chemicals that can prevent the growth of algae, which you don’t want in your pool!

Pool safety should also be a top concern, meaning that you will need to purchase products such as life vests, alarms, fences, etc., which can prevent and save anyone who might inadvertently fall in or get in trouble while in the water. This is especially important if there are children nearby.

You may not be able to purchase all of the pool supplies you need at once, so you may have to prioritize your list. Comparison shopping is also a very good idea!
